Nobel Peace Laureate Prof. Yunus on Social Business

On 23. April, 2013, the Nobel Peace Laureate and Professor of Economics Muhammad Yunus, as a guest of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Information Systems, will give a talk on “Social Business.” Prof. Yunus will give a brief talk to set the tone for the ensuing discussion, in which students explicitly are invited to participate. The discussion, an official university event, will commence at 6pm in the Vielberth Building.

The event is being organized by Prof. Lutz Arnold. Together with Prof. Gregor Dorfleitner, he currently heads a DFG project on Microfinance, the extension of small loans to poor borrowers without collateral. Up until the establishment of the Grameen Bank 30 years ago by Prof. Yunus, such undertakings were viewed as uneconomical. In the meantime, microloans have proven themselves as economically viable and reach 100 million people worldwide.
